What do I decide before contacting a supplier?
Nearly every delay in a first import traces back to an incomplete brief. Fix four things before you enquire: category and model (city, mountain, road, folding, kids, cruiser, BMX or e-bike), target quantity, destination market, and whether you want a stock model or an OEM build under your own brand.

Which certifications must be settled before production?
Compliance is decided at the specification stage, not after the bikes are built. The EU expects EN ISO 4210 for city, mountain, road and trekking bicycles, EN ISO 8098 for children's bicycles and EN 15194 for e-bikes. The US market works to CPSC 16 CFR 1512, and many buyers add UL 2849 for e-bike electrical systems. Lithium batteries need a valid UN 38.3 test summary. Ask for the factory's ISO 9001 certificate and test reports naming your exact model; a report for a neighbouring model is not evidence for yours.
How do I handle the sample, production and inspection?
Approve a physical pre-production sample before mass production opens: ride it, weigh it, check welds, paint coverage, brake performance and fastener torque, then sign off in writing against photographed references. A mid-line check at 30-50 percent completion catches systematic errors while they are cheap to fix. Before loading, inspect assembly, function, packaging, carton markings and quantity. We inspect 100 percent of units before shipment; never release a balance payment before the report reaches you.
Which Incoterm and container size fit my order?
EXW gives the narrowest supplier scope and the heaviest workload. FOB is the practical default: the exporter handles Chinese export formalities and you control the ocean leg. CIF suits buyers without a forwarder; DDP suits buyers wanting one delivered handover. Confirm the choice against Incoterms 2020. On capacity, a 20ft holds roughly 250-300 bicycles, a 40ft 450-520 and a 40ft HQ 500-600; e-bikes load fewer because of battery weight.
